Chill Zone: Your Friendly Neighbourhood After School Program

News North BurLINKton Chill Zone

We are less than one week away from the 2013/2014 edition of Community Development Halton’s after school program called “Chill Zone“.

The program’s goal is to provide a safe neighbourhood drop-in space for elementary school children.

The program also provides local volunteer opportunities for teens giving them a chance to develop some great leadership skills.

The program is part of a larger neighbourhood development initiative called North BurLINKton which is focused on building on all that is great in north Burlington while working with community members and community partners to make it even an even better place to live.

With the help of our partners, Tansley United Church, Calvary Baptist Church, the City of Burlington, ArtHouse/Burlington Arts Centre, and the Burlington Gymnastics Club, Chill Zone opens doors for neighbourhood children to experience a variety of active recreation opportunities, sports and art. The program is offered free of cost for the children who come.

Last year’s experience showed us that when we create a space that is inclusive, welcoming and safe, new friendships and a sense of community develops. Most importantly we have FUN together at Chill Zone.

Chill Zone starts:

Monday Sept 30, 2013 at Tansley United Church, 2111 Walkers Line (in the loft)

The Tansley site runs every Monday and Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 pm

and

Tuesday October 1, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church, 2458 St. Francis Drive (new site!!!)

The Calvary Site runs every Tuesday from 3:30 to 5:30 pm

Activities include: homework help, healthy snacks, physical activities, sports, and art activities.
